Calamagrostis acutiflora 'Eldorado'
Common Name: Varigated Feather Reed Grass
This new and rare varigated form of 'Karl Foerster' is sure to please. The green leaves have a gold mid-rib that really brightens up this very upright grass. A cool season grass that blooms well before most other popular ornamental grasses. The feathery plumes appear in early summer and persist well into the winter. PP16486

Calamagrostis acutiflora 'Karl Foerster'
Common Name: Feather Reed Grass
This is the most popular and best feather reed grass and for good reason. So good the Perennial Plant Association named this the 2001 Perennial Plant of the Year. A cool season grass that is quick to emerge in the spring and one of the first ornamental grasses to bloom. The wheat like plumes appear in late spring or early summer and persist well into the winter. The narrow upright habit make this grass ideal for those narrow beds or borders.

Calamagrostis acutiflora 'Overdam'
Common Name: Varigated Feather Reed Grass
If you have grown Calamagrostis 'Karl Foerster' and liked its narrow, upright habit then you are sure to like 'Overdam'. 'Overdam' has the same habit but with variegated foliage. The green leaves have creamy white edges that turn to white with a pink flush. The feathery plumes with purplish seed heads turn to tan as they age.

Calamagrostis arundinacea var. brachytricha
Common Name: Korean Feather Reed Grass
This under appreciated grass always attracks alot of attention in our gardens. Very different from the other Calamagrostis that we sell, C. brachytricha has a mounding habit with stiff pinkish tinged plumes held above the dark green foliage. It is deer resistant, as well as, drought and salt tolerant. In full sun areas it needs to have consistenly moist soil. A great plant that adds a graceful touch to the garden.

Carex buchananii 'Red Rooster'
Common Name: Leather Leaf Sedge

Carex buchananii 'Red Rooster' has a dense, tufted, arching habit with narrow evergreen foliage. The leaves are copper-red to light brown in color. Prefers moist soil and does best in mild cool climates. Great as a border, mass planting, or near a water garden.


Carex morrowii 'Ice Dance'
Common Name: Varigated Sedge
Has gorgeous wide, strappy leaves that are green with white variegated edges and are evergreen. Small, white, bottlebrush-like flowers appear in mid spring. This is a very versatile variety because it can be grown almost full sun to shade, but does best with more shade. It is deer resistant and a slow to moderate grower, making it great as a ground cover or in containers. An excellent grass that makes a colorful impact in shade gardens.

Carex pensylvanica
Common Name: Oak Sedge

Carex pensylvanica is a native grass that has a wonderful spreading habit and a tough demeanor. The fine foliage and fountain habit lend a softness to the shade garden. It is a wonderful plant for containers or to plant along side bolder perennials.


Chasmanthium latifolium
Common Name: Northern Sea Oats
Exciting grass that has bamboo-like foliage and is revered for it's drooping flowers. The seed heads look fantastic in dried or fresh arrangements. It tends to reseed making it a great choice for mass plantings. Also, it is deer resistant. This plant is great in containers to give them extended interest.

Cyperus involucratus 'Baby Tut'
Common Name: Umbrella Grass

Proven Winners Cyperus 'Baby Tut' is slightly shorter than King Tut with an umbrella shape to it.  This little grass does great in drained soil,  doesn't mind it's feet wet and loves the sun.  Baby Tut is ideal for the centerpiece of a container, in the landscape, and in water gardens.   


Cyperus papyrus 'King Tut®'
Common Name: Egyptian Papyrus

King Tut from Proven Winners is a fun addition to any garden, pond or container!  It makes a great center plant for combinations with it's unique look and tall upward growth.  Plant a grouping in your landscape and surround it with Supertunias or Wave Petunias for a massive head turning display.  Also can be used as a pond plant.  If used as a pond plant do not plant plant the crown of the plant under water.

 



Erianthus ravennae
Common Name: Ravenna Grass
Gigantic grass that has a superb upright, arching habit. The foliage reaches a height of 5 feet and in the fall turns shades of orange, tan, beige, and purple. The feathery plumes appear in late summer and are atop tall stems. Flowers are silvery with a hint of purple and fade to white in the fall. It is deer resistant, as well as, drought and salt tolerant. This is a grass that will attract a lot of attention and deserves to be in a place where it can be the focal point.

Festuca glauca 'Elijah Blue'
Common Name: Blue Fescue
Fantastic grass that has soft blue spikey foliage and tan seed heads that appear just above the plant. It retains it's color all year round, making it great for a prominent spot in the garden. This Festuca has a clumping, mounding habit, is deer resistant, is very durable, and long lived. Perfect plant for rock gardens and containers.

Hakonechloa macra 'All Gold'
Common Name: Japanese Forest Grass
Hakonechloa macra 'All Gold' absolutely glows in the shade garden. The brilliant gold color with its arching habit make it so desirable in the garden. Holds the gold color all summer and then in winter turns light tan. Awesome in containers too!

Hakonechloa macra 'Aureola'
Common Name: Japanese Forest Grass
A fantastic plant that has variegated foliage and an outstanding arching habit. The leaf blades are almost completely yellow with narrow green stripes near the margin. Flowers are tiny small seed heads that appear in late summer to early fall. With the cool weather of fall the leaves will be infused with shades of pink and red. Has a cascading habit and the leaves all arch in the same direction. It is deer resistant and is a slow grower. Looks amazing crawling over rocks or edges of walls.

Helictotrichon sempervirens 'Sapphire'
Common Name: Blue Oat Grass

Excellent grass that has denselly packed spikes of blue-grey leaves that are arching. Tan seed heads appear in early summer and shoot up above the foliage adding extra interest. In colder climates this plant is semi-evergreen and in warmer zones it is evergreen. A fantastic grass that makes quite an impact in the garden.


Juncus effusus 'Spiralis'
Common Name: Corkscrew Rush

Juncus 'Spiralis' boasts dark green, twisted, and spiraled foliage.  Its unique look works great as a center point in combinations.  The twists of grass blades poke and twist out in an upright spreading fashion.  


Juncus inflexus 'Graceful Grasses Blue Mohawk'
Common Name: Soft Rush

Juncus 'Blue Mohawk' is a fun grass to add to the center or back of a combination pot because of its spiky, blue-green foliage and great height. This grass is very versatile being able to be used as a water plant or out in the landscape as long as it gets adequate water. An excellent choice for unique color and texture.


Miscanthus 'Super Stripe'
Common Name: Miscanthus

Miscanthus 'Super Stripe' is a showy grass with lush foliage that is green with tight bands of gold. It forms an eye-catching upright, arching clump that is about 4 feet high and in early fall is topped with tall plumes that reach 7 feet tall. This is a very versatile plant that also has great winter interest.


Miscanthus sinensis 'Gracillimus'
Common Name: Maiden Grass
This well known, traditional Miscanthus has green leaves with silver veins that arch gracefully. Plume-like flowers appear in early fall, have a reddish tint, and fade to silvery-white in the winter. Foliage changes to golden yellow in the fall. It is deer resistant and makes a great habitat for birds. A low maintenance plant that has great versatility.

Miscanthus sinensis 'Graziella'
Common Name: Maiden Grass
Stunning grass with soft plume-like silvery-white flowers that appear in late summer. They are held above the foliage and look very graceful blowing in the wind. The foliage is green, thin, upright, and arching. In the fall it turns a beautiful copper-red color. It is also deer resistant. A fantastic plant that will quickly be a permanent fixture in the garden.

Miscanthus sinensis 'Huron Sunrise'
Common Name: Maiden Grass
Outstanding Miscanthus that is a profuse bloomer. It has burgundy plumes of flowers that appear in late summer and rich green leaves that have a silver midrib. The graceful upright form is maintained throughout the winter. It is deer resistant and makes a great habitat for birds. A great plant that works well in any type of landscape.

Miscanthus sinensis 'Malpartus'
Common Name: Maiden Grass

Miscanthus sinensis 'Malpartus' is a wonderful grass that forms a large, tall mound of green foliage. One of the best characteristics of this plant are the abundance of its large, purplish-pink inflorescence that mature to silver. In fall the leaves transform into a deep bronze color. 


Miscanthus sinensis 'Morning Light'
Common Name: Varigated Maiden Grass
Fantastic grass with it's variegated leaves that are green with a thin white margin. Gives off a silvery cast when hit with morning or late afternoon sun. Foliage fades to tan throughout the winter. It has an excellent upright, rounded habit that never flops and is deer resistant. Flowers are reddish-bronze and need a very long, hot growing season to bloom. As the seeds mature they turn a cream color and look great in the winter against the tan leaves. A versatile grass that fits into any landscape.

Miscanthus sinensis 'Sarabande'
Common Name: Saraband
Beautiful grass that has narrow, rich green leaves and reddish-brown tassle-like flowers. The foliage stays green throughout summer and begins to fade to tan as winter approaches. The flowers turn silver in the late fall and persist into winter, which increases the interest of the plant. It has an excellent upright, clumping form and makes a great habitat for birds. A perfect plant to add year round interest to the garden.

Miscanthus sinensis 'Strictus'
Common Name: Porcupine Grass
This plant has fantastic variegated leaves of yellow-white and green that are in horizontal bands. The bands are irregularly spaced and seem to glow when hit by the early or late afternoon sun. Very similar to M. 'Zebrinus'; the difference is the leaves stretch u1 PWard instead of arching downward like 'Zebrinus'. It has a superb upright form and is deer resistant. It needs a very long, hot growing season to produce flowers, but when it does the flowers are copper-pink and appear in early fall. This is a great grass that has excellent year round interest.

Miscanthus sinensis 'Variegatus'
Common Name: Varigated Maiden Grass
Gorgeous grass that has variegated leaves of white and green; white is the predominant color. From a distance the plant has a silvery glow. The flowers need a long, hot growing season to bloom. When that requirement is met the blooms open up to red fluffy panicles in early fall. Winter foliage color is beige and the flowers will also sometimes persist, which makes a great contrast to the leaves. It has cascading leaves, needs space to grow, and is deer resistant. An excellent plant for containers or to use in hedges.

Miscanthus var. purpurascens
Common Name: Purple Maiden Grass
A remarkable grass that has rich green foliage throughout the summer and then in the fall turns a brilliant orange-red. Burgundy-tan flowers appear in late summer, which helps bring color to the green leaves. It is a great filler plant because of it's size and form. An outstanding plant that has stunning fall color.

Miscanthus xgiganteus
Common Name: Maiden Grass

Miscanthus xgiganteus will make a bold statement in the garden with its large upright clumps if wide, pendant shape foliage. In the fall the flower stalks rise to approximately 10 feet tall. The pink plumes gradually change to silver as they age. It is a slow spreading plant that is sterile and non-invasive.


Panicum virgatum 'Heavy Metal'
Common Name: Blue Switch Grass
This outstanding Panicum has strong, sturdy stems, which gives it an excellent upright habit. It can hold up to heavy rains and snow. The foliage is metallic blue and changes to a bright yellow in the fall. Petite panicles of pink flowers look like a billowing cloud on top of the foliage. In the wind it makes a peaceful swishing sound. It is deer resistant, as well as, salt and drought tolerant once established in the landscape. A beautiful plant that brings a graceful elegance to the garden.

Panicum virgatum 'Prairie Fire'
Common Name: Red Switch Grass
Superb grass that has wine red leaves and blue-green stems. The leaves first emerge blue-green and by early summer they begin to change to red. It changes color earlier than other Red Swithgrasses. Flowers appear in late summer and are just above the foliage. It is deer resistant, as well as, salt and drought tolerant once established in the landscape. A great plant to have in the garden that will be beautiful throughout many seasons.

Panicum virgatum 'Shenandoah'
Common Name: Red Switch Grass
Remarkable grass with foliage that emerges blue-green and quickly changes to burgundy- red. In the fall the leaves fade to beige and persist into the winter. Reddish-pink flower panicles hover above the leaves and give a nice airy effect. They will turn beige in the fall and last into the winter. It has an excellent upright habit and great year round interest.

Pennisetum alopecuroides 'Burgundy Bunny'
Common Name: Miniature Fountain Grass

Pennisetum 'Burgundy Bunny' is a petite plant that is short in stature and works great in containers and tucking into small spaces in the garden. It has one of the best red coloring out of all of the miniature varieties. In the summer it is red followed by blazing red in the fall. Tufted, cream plumes appear in late summer.


Pennisetum alopecuroides 'Hameln'
Common Name: Dwarf Fountain Grass
Beautiful plant with finely textured leaves that look spectacular with the early morning or late afternoon sun. Tan flowers appear in mid summer and are a great contrast to the rich green leaves. Has a shorter and more compact habit then other varieties. It is deer resistant and has great year round interest. This is a low maintenance plant that looks amazing when planted in masses.

Pennisetum alopecuroides 'Little Bunny'
Common Name: Miniature Fountain Grass
An adorable, miniature Fountain Grass that is as cute as it's name. 'Little Bunny' has white tufted seed heads that look like bunny tails that are just above the narrow, finely textured foliage. It forms a perfect, rounded mound and is deer resistant. An excellent choice for sunny rock gardens. This plant will have everyone hopping.

Pennisetum alopecuroides 'Piglet'
Common Name: Fountain Grass
Cute grass that is the perfect size for containers and small areas in the landscape. It is taller than 'Little Bunny', but shorter than 'Hamlin'. This variety has tan puffy plumes that are above the finely textured foliage. It is deer resistant and has great year round interest. This is an adorable grass that is great for patio containers and as a tall edging plant.

Pennisetum alopecuroides 'Red Head'
Common Name: Red Head Fountain Grass
An early flowering form of Pennisetum, this variety has cute bottlebrush blooms of reddish-purple. The foliage is a rich green color and will have gold tones in the fall. Flowers look great in floral arrangements. It is deer resistant and has excellent season long interest. A fantastic plant that looks amazing when planted in masses.

Pennisetum purpureum 'Vertigo'
Common Name: Pearl Millet

Pennisetum 'Vertigo' is a very dramatic wide bladed burgundy grass.  It can be used in large combos or in the landscape.  It is spectaculiar in mass plantings or clusters.  It is hardy to about 20 degrees f planted in the ground.  It should be treated as an annual in climates that get colder than this.


Pennisetum setaceum 'Fireworks'
Common Name: Purple Fountain Grass

Pennisetum setaceum 'Fireworks' is a fantastic ornamental grass that will add some pizazz to your garden. It has variegated foliage that is a mix of green, burgundy, and pink with purlpe-red flower plumes that appear in the summer. An excellent choice for the center of mixed containers, borders, or in the landscape!


Pennisetum setaceum 'Red Riding Hood'
Common Name: Dwarf Purple Fountain Grass

Pennisetum 'Red Riding Hood' has a dwarf upright arching growth habit.  It boasts a rich burgundy color that will deepen in the sun. 'Red Riding Hood' will add height without taking over the pot.  Excellent choice for smaller combinations.


Pennisetum setaceum 'Rubrum'
Common Name: Purple Fountain Grass

Pennisetum 'Rubrum' has a magnificent upright arching habit with a deep rich burgundy color. This variety is especially dramatic in clusters, mass plantings, or along slopes.  Also works well in larger combination containers.  Excellent landscape performer.  Disease resistant.


Scirpus 'Fiber Optic Grass'
Common Name: Fiber Optic Grass

Scirpus 'Fiber Optic Grass' is a short, compact little grass that adds a fun and very unique look to any garden.  The stems have tiny fluffy flowers on the tips, giving the appearance of fiber optic wires.  This is a great filler for container and window boxes, and is fun in the landscape. 


Sporobolus heterolepis
Common Name: Prairie Dropseed

Sporobolus heterolepis or Prairie Dropseed is a gorgeous grass with its fine textured, deep green foliage and gracefully airy plumes. The flowers appear in the fall and have a slight fragrance to them which is similar to coriander. The foliage turns a stunning orange color in the fall adding even more interest. This grass makes a well defined border and adds a distinctive look to the landscape.
